Glorious sunshine and perfect snow conditions – what more could skiers ask for? In the skiing and hiking region of Golm, guests are already making the most of the sunlight during their comfortable ride on the new 6-seater chairlift up to the Hüttenkopf top station. Because one third of the lift’s total power requirement is provided by the integrated photovoltaic system. Its special feature: curved solar modules.
The chairlift provides a perfect example of responsible, environmentally sound infrastructure development and acts as a driver of quality tourism in the region. As the lift is owned by the power company Illwerke VKW, the idea of utilizing solar energy was self-evident – and also boosts the image of a family-friendly holiday region that focuses on sustainability.
"Our greatest USP is certainly the solar cells that have been directly built into Doppelmayr‘s standard stations," says Harald Feldkircher, technical director of Vorarlberger Illwerke. "They blend in attractively and discreetly with the modern look of the chairlift. The lift only operates in the winter. The electricity produced in the summer is fed back into the grid."
