Garaventa has won the contract for two heavy-duty ropeways for construction of the new 1000 MW pumped storage hydropower plant belonging to the Linth-Limmern power company. Two jig back ropeways, which are connected by a 3-kilometer tunnel, will provide access for equipment and personnel from the valley floor (800 m) up to the new dam (2,400 m) on this huge construction site. The first section was handed over to the owners as scheduled at the end of 2009 after a 1½-year construction phase.

With its two freight carriers, the construction ropeway transports normal loads of up to 25 t per track and, if necessary, exceptional loads of up to 40 t. The installation also has a 40-passenger cabin for transporting personnel. In view of the huge transport load and the demanding topography, the dimensions are impressive. The track ropes alone are 90 mm in diameter and have a total weight of over 400 t per ropeway.
