The Scenic World tourist attraction lies a good two-hour journey to the west of Sydney in the heart of the Blue Mountains and offers four main attractions. The most famous of these is the Scenic Railway, which has been entirely replaced and reopened to the public. While the original railway was built in the late 19th century to serve a coal mine, today’s installation is used to carry tourists.
With a grade of up to 52° (128%) in open terrain, the Scenic Railway is the steepest single-track funicular in the world. The trip covers 210 vertical meters over a route length of 325 meters. Now in its sixth generation, the train has a capacity of 84 passengers and consists of four individual cabins which are designed to cope with the extreme variations in grade. All the passengers are seated.
